Edited by Andre Simon. Translated by Sr. Mary Martin Jacobs, O.P.
"Just as in the very beginning of the new-born church, the multitude of believers was of one heart and mind, and held everything in common, so you ought to have one set of customs and one manner of life in the house of the Lord."
The thirteenth century documents contained in this slim but important volume are the only translations available in English from the original Latin of the primitive legislation of the Nuns of the Order of Preachers. Following the lead of Mother Marie Rosaria Hiett, O.P. (1906-2005), and her 1969 first-ever English translation (from the French) of the Rule of San Sisto, Sr. Mary Martin offers this new translation, not only for the benefit of historians and others interested in the life of the early nuns, but for the nuns themselves as they return anew to the sources of their life during their Eighth Centenary.
