Through Lent with John s People is written for readers short on time but long on a desire to grow in faith during the Lenten season. For each day of Lent, the book provides a passage from the Gospel of St. John and a brief reflection on how our lives and attitudes compare with those of the people whose encounters with Jesus are portrayed in that passage. Two to four questions for prayerful consideration close each entry. The book offers busy readers a time-efficient means of engaging in the ancient Catholic practice of lectio divina, and its four movements : lectio (reading a passage of Scripture), meditatio (meditating on that passage), oratio (praying about the passage) and contemplatio (contemplating the passage). About the Author

Mr. Thomas Garry, OP, is a member of the Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic, Caldwell University chapter, and a parishioner of St. Catharine Roman Catholic Church in Glen Rock, NJ. He and his wife, Sandy, have three children, Meghan, Brendan, and Erin. Tom has served in his parish as a lector, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Confirmation class teacher, basketball coach, and homeless ministry volunteer. He also has been active in pro-life and anti-poverty efforts. A medical writer by profession, Tom also has written for a number of Catholic publications, including Columbia, Our Sunday Visitor, and the Archdiocese of Newark s newspaper, The Catholic Advocate. He has a bachelor s degree in international relations and a master s degree in political science from American Military University, and a master s degree in economics from the University of London. Through Lent with John s People is an outgrowth of his (quite imperfect) practice of lectio divina, the ancient Catholic tradition of prayerful contemplation of Scripture cherished by St. Dominic and all who seek to follow him in the Dominican family he established more than 800 years ago.

This is so good!

Oh, wow. I thought that I would wait until mid-Lent before I thought about writing a review, but I know, three days in, that I have been amazed, every day, by the content. This author writes wisely and humbly. I feel like I am sitting with a person telling me the most important things, and surprising me with his insight. He leads me to recognize myself in the persons of the Bible. It takes only a little time to read 2-3 pages each day, yet leaves me full of thoughts and insights to ponder. The book itself is good quality, with a satiny-soft cover, and bound so that the pages are supple, and turn easily. There is no smell of cheap ink or paper. This is not for “super smart” people, and your eyes won’t swim with content above your head. I feel like I have been instructed by a good homily that makes me feel elevated and thoughtful. My senses, my wisdom, and my Christian soul is called forth for the day!

Not Just for Lent

Although set up to take you through John's Gospel from Ash Wednesday through Easter Sunday, [i]Through Lent With John's People[/i] is a wonderful collection of short reflections on scripture with good questions for reflection that can be a companion in the journey at any time of year.
